1. College Services
The College Services team are here to offer guidance and support on all aspects of your life in the UK from arrival to progression to your degree. We offer a range of services to help students settle in, including practical information about visas, travel, managing money, banking, and accessing medical care. We also offer opportunities for students to enjoy themselves and make friends. We run a range of professional development opportunities, social activities, and events. 2. Disability Support
Students with a medical condition, specific learning differences, mental health issue or disability can request additional support and adjustments by completing the disclosure form on your offer letter. Alternatively, speak to your College Services Advisor for guidance about how we can support your studies.
3. Mental Health and Wellbeing
The College runs various wellbeing events and awareness campaigns throughout the term. We can offer advice about coping with exam stress, anxiety and homesickness. Speak to your College Services Advisor if you would like help building resilience and dealing with the pressures of student life.
All students also have access to an external confidential advice service called the Student Assistance Programme (SAP). The service, by Health Assured, provides a confidential counselling service as well as legal and financial advice. Students can access it by calling SAP: 0800 028 3766. A translation Service is available, and students can use their native language. You can access support by downloading the “My Healthy Advantage” App from the Apple or Android Store.
There are a qualified Mental Health First Aiders in the college on the academic, College Services and Leadership Teams. These members of staff are trained to support you through any mental health challenges and can sign post you to the resources that are available to you.
4. Accommodation
There are various different options for on-campus accommodation. All students staying in university accommodation are supported by the Residence Life Team. The Residence Life Team is formed of student-staff who focus on community building, supporting students' transition to university life, and providing programs that enhance cultural competencies. The Residents’ Assistants (RAs) are there to help you integrate into university life and will organise a range of social activities where you can get to know other students in your accommodation and familiarise yourself with the local area. They are also there to offer support should you have trouble settling in or are home sick.
5. Social Life
You will have opportunities to build an active social life and develop new friendships. The College Services Team organise weekly social events to provide an opportunity for you to interact with your peers, including in-college activities such as movie nights, mindfulness sessions, cultural days, and karaoke; off-site trips to local attractions including the zoo, bowling alley, arcades and local beaches; and evening or weekend trips to visit other cities in the UK, Christmas markets, and for national events.
The university’s Student Union organise welcome events, student nights, cultural celebrations, mixers and support over 100 different societies and sports teams – providing you the opportunity to amalgamate yourself with the university.
6. Academic Support
All students will have a Learning Advisor who will help you to plan your time, manage your assessments, and support you throughout your time at the college. Teachers will also able to give you personalised support with your studies and are always happy to help if there is something you do not understand.
